The piano is more than a musical instrument that plays 88 musical notes when fingers depress keys,  that propel hammers,  that hit steel strings.    it is a centuries old complex musical instrument that has endured and remained true to its early 1700's roots.  over the years, with few design overhauls, the piano began as and continues to be in the forefront of man's musical aspirations.  The instrument that was played by Mozart to private audiences, is the same instrument that brings music's international language to the world today.

By the way , in addition to the 88 keys,  the piano consists of  over 200 steel strings and +/- 8,000 movable parts!
